Happy Birthday, Miss C!

Miss C turned 5 during the last week of school. So between end of the year activities and party planning, I had to figure out preschool birthday snacks. Her birthday party that weekend was going to be Strawberry Shortcake theme, so we ran with the strawberry theme all week.   Her preschool snacks: Easy Strawberry Mini Trifles Using clear party cups, layer the following: - cubed angel food cake - vanilla pudding - strawberries w/syrup - a dollop of whipped cream.  Her birthday lunch!  "Cake" turkey and cheese sandwich  blueberries, grapes, veggie and snap peas chips.  The cake cutter is from the SWEET set from LunchPunch. She also wanted to share a snack with her lunch buddies at her extended preschool class. Since I know that all of the kids will have packed lunches, we just did mini strawberry kabobs with flower marshmallows for that little sweet treat. That weekend, Miss C had her Strawberry Shortcake themed birthda...

Last week of school!

Miss C's last week of school was 2 weeks ago... it was also her birthday week. (I will have the birthday stuff in the next post). She will be going to daycare during the summer, so I don't have to pack her lunches. Its only week 2 of summer break and I already miss packing her lunches. She misses school too. And since I'm not doing her lunches, I've been slacking in my own lunches. I have to come up with fun stuff this summer so this blog doesn't get stale. I'm thinking about posting some recipes, summer themed lunches (zoo, beach/pool, Disney, etc) and prepping for the next school year (how to get started, my supply stash and where to buy, hints/tips. etc) Ladybug lunch: turkey sandwich, banana,  cheese stick, grapes & fruit snacks The "I-have-nothing-in-the-fridge" lunch: cucumbers, grapes, triscuits w/cheese and pepperoni, and lime jello Last day of school lunch: Sunbutter&jelly sandwich sushi Wheat Thins, cheese...

I had to prioritize all the preschool events, cakes, and birthday festivities, on top of our day-to-day activities, and blogging did not make it into the higher priority list. So in the next couple days, I'll try to catch up.

Bentos in EasyLunchBoxes

Instead of trying to remember lunches and days, I thought I'd group the lunches based on lunch container types. Just because. It's something different. And it's easier. So first up, is one of my favorite lunch box: the EasyLunchBox . I was reading up on other bento blogs when I first started and it seemed like everyone else were using Easylunchboxes (or ELBs.)  I was quite content with my a disposable/reusable brand that I got at the grocery store... but I was intrigued. So I bought a set.  My disposable brand ones warped in the microwave and dishwasher, the ELBs can withstand the microwave and the hubby put it in the bottom rack of the dishwasher. (Plus it's BPA-free!) One of my pet peeves is when the plastic gets discolored when you put spaghetti sauce or chili in it... I have not noticed that with my ELBs. Plus, if you're into being green and environmentally conscious, its probably worth investing in a set of these. I already had to throw away some disposable on...
